44さい (if all goes according to plan)

二十年ごのわたしはアメリカでびじゅつしのきょうしです。日本のびじゅつがだいすきから、おしえます。わたしはとてもいそがしいです。

わたしのかぞくはアメリカにいますから、わたしはアメリカにいます。でも、いちばんすきなびじゅつは日本にありますから、わたしはときどきにほんへ行きます。

わたしはかれとけっこんしますが、かれはりょこうがきらいです。わたしはいつも一人でりょこうします。でも、日本にわたしの友だちがいますから、だいじょうぶです！

Why I'm Learning Japanese

Hello everyone! It's Sarah, again, your friendly neighborhood Japanese art history graduate student. In graduate school, you're frequently asked, "why do you do what you do?" (in fact, that's a huge part of the whole graduate application process, if not the entirety of the application). So, why do I study Japanese? Well, in short, because I love Japanese art history! It's my focus in my graduate studies, after all. Why? Well, mostly for reasons I can't necessarily explain -- I can write down the reasons but the reason I'm drawn to the art is mostly for indeterminate, aesthetic reasons. Though, I can say that my grandmother collected Japanese antiques, so in many ways, I grew up surrounded by Japanese art, which no one in my family fully understood. やすみがありましたか？

せんしゅう、わたしはやすみがありますから、たくさんねました。でも、しけんがありました。そして、べんきょうしました。I think I did okay... がんばりました。I got especially nervous during the oral portion after I missed one of my lines. Ugh, I felt so embarrassed! はなすのはとてもむずかしいとおもいます。 I think I've been too focused on learning how to read for practical reasons (i.e. graduation requirements) that I've neglected other aspects of the language. Sad!!! But, now I know where I stand. Anyway, やすみはとてもたのしかったでした。わたしのかれはアラバマからニューヨークへきました。かれはきたことがありませんでした。かれにわたしのいちばんすきなコーヒーカップをむらいました。(I had left it at home)　せんしゅうのどようびにわたしたちはMaison Pickleへいきました。そのたべものはとてもおいしいですよ！そして、せんしゅうのどようびのばんにKishi Bashi のコンサートへいきました。It was amazing! せんしゅうのにちようびにAmerican Museum of Natural History へいきました。そして、げつようびにRockerfeller Centerへいきました。かれはにんてんどでぼうしをかいました。でも、かようびからもくようびまでわたしはべんきょうしました。そして、すいようびからもくようびまでくらすがありました。きにょうびにわたしとかれはひまです。やすみました。いっしょにThe Good Place をみました。こんしゅうのどようびにかれはかえりました。Back to work!

わたしのスケジュール

わたしのスケジュールはなんですか？ええええ、だいがくへまいしゅういきます。 げつようびからもくようびまでにほんごのクラスへいきます。そのクラスはにじよんじゅっぷんからさんじよんじゅうごふんまでです。でも、わたしはにほんごをまいにちべんきょうします。にほんごをならうのがだいすきです！ げつようびとすいようび、にじにだいがくへいきます。げつようびにわたしは "Topics in East Asian Buddhism" のクラスへいきます。それに、にほごのクラスのあと、すいようびに "Heian Period Buddhist Painting" のクラスへいきます。"Topics in East Asian Buddhism" のクラスと"Heian Period Buddhist Painting" のクラスはよんじからろくじまでです。それから、うちへかえります。かようびも、ごごにじにだいがくへいきます。でも、にほごのクラスのあとにうちへかえります。それから、びじゅつのれきしのほんをよみます。 もくようび、にほごのクラスのまえに"MA Art Historical Methods"のクラスへいきます。にほごのクラスのあとにLanguage Labへいきます。それはよんじからごじまでです。それから、うちへかえります。 しゅうまつにともだちにあいます。ともだちとびじゅつかんへいきます。しゅくだいをおわります。たくさんねます！まいにち （へいじつとしゅうまつ）、ごぜんさんじからじゅういちじまでねます。 I wish more of my schedule involved sleeping!
